Why consider a change: plastic baggies at the grocery store have a very short life, and yet they are almost never recycled and last for a significantly long period of time as plastic waste. Produce is not clean on the shelves or washed after its (sometimes long) journey to the grocery store, and so the plastic does not truly provide cleanliness. With the myriad of options available to house food in plastic-free or more low waste, its an excellent goal to try to remove these plastic baggies from our routine. A cheap option to replace these baggies is often a polyester baggie, which also creates a lot of plastic micro waste during use, washing, and end of life.
