Northern Wildflowers is based in Sudbury, Ontario and offers native wildflower seeds. Native plants are important for supporting pollinators, as they are the plants that have evolved in our region to support the ecosystems here, as the pollinators have. Pollinator and native insects are essential for supporting the natural processes in our ecosystems and are currently experiencing survival stress due to the changing climate and are decreasing in numbers. We can support them by offering native plants in our green spaces and gardens, and these seeds are a wonderful locally based option.

Fall and spring are the best times to sprinkle these seeds for success as that's when things happen naturally.

Black-Eyed Susans - approximately 175 seeds, covers 40 feet: Favourites among new gardeners, they are prolific, very easy to grow, and loved by bees and butterflies. Black-Eyed Susan is also an excellent nurse crop for native seed mixes, valued for its fast germination, rapid canopy cover, and ability to suppress weeds while slower-establishing species take hold. As a short-lived perennial or biennial, it delivers strong first-year performance without creating long-term competition. Oxeye "False" Sunflower (Tickseed)- Approximately 40 seeds, or 30 square feet: Native to the prairie and savanna habitats of central Canada. It is not a true sunflower, but rather the flowers resemble a smaller version of the yellow sunflower. Oxeye sunflower is easy to grow from seeds, maintenance is undemanding and it does well in clay rich soil. Long bloom time throughout the summer. Pale Purple Coneflower (Echinacea) - 50 seeds, covers 10 feet: Flowers are a unique pale purple and emerge in early summer. It forms a deep taproot which allows for great drought tolerance, but it does not do well in undrained soil and resents being transplanted. It is a food source of the adult Ottoe Skipper butterfly, which is listed as endangered in Canada and threatened in the United States. Makes a good cut flower or a dried option for echinacea tea to support cold symptoms in the winter. Smooth Blue Aster - approximately 325 seeds, about 40 feet: Smooth Aster has leaves that are smooth to the touch, distinguishing it from most other Aster varieties. The stem also often takes on a shade of blue. The beautiful purple-blue flowers attract many different pollinators and the plant is host for the Silvery Checkerspot and Pearl Crescent Butterflies.
